Meal Delivery Services
MamaSezz
Get MamaSezz
Mama’s Burger
With MamaSezz, the options are the most flexible of all the services we tried in that they not only offer dishes, plans and bundles, but also a selection of individual items (such as raw greens, granola or salad dressing). Weekly deliveries are not required and there is no minimum order size.
When ordering items individually, the shipping cost depends on the order size. However, bundles ship for free.
At MamaSezz, their items typically cost:
- Between $4 and $6 per serving
Remember these aren’t necessarily complete meals; you may have to put a couple of items together to create a full meal.
As far as catering to dietary requirements, all their items are gluten-free, many are soy-free, and some are even salt-free.
When we tried MamaSezz, we opted to purchase 4 individual dishes, each providing either 2 or 4 servings:
- Millie’s Chili
- Veggie Loaf
- Scalloped Potatoes
- Moroccan Stew
We were also pleasantly surprised to receive a free gift with our order: 2 servings of the Jerk Spiced Protein Strips.
Our favorite was the Millie’s Chili. It was hearty, full of vegetables and definitely satisfying. The Veggie Loaf and Scalloped Potatoes went well together to form a complete meal.
Each dish was precooked, ready to eat, and shipped refrigerated (MamaSezz never freezes their food, but dishes can be frozen upon arrival to increase their shelf life).
The refrigerated dishes were very easy to heat up, taking only a couple of minutes in the microwave, several minutes on the stove, or up to 15 minutes in the oven, according to the directions on the packages.
Who it’s good for/not good for
MamaSezz is designed for those who do not want to have to cook, but still want flexibility in how they create their meals. You can order a plan or bundle where most of the thinking has been done for you, or you can order individual dishes and items so you can make your own pairings and create your own unique combinations.
It is also great if you are looking for a strictly whole food plant-based diet as they use absolutely no processed ingredients and no animal products. MamaSezz is also a good option for couples and families as their individual dishes typically contain 2 to 4 servings.
With that said, it may not be the best option for singles.
Purple Carrot

Creamy Tahini Noodles
Purple Carrot offers two options, prepared meals or meal kits which are delivered weekly. In both cases, you can skip deliveries any time you want, and you can also cancel the service with no penalties.
For the meal kits, you choose the number of servings and the number of meals you will receive per delivery:
- The 2 serving plan has a choice of either 3 or 4 meals per delivery
- The 4 serving plan has a choice of either 2 or 3 meals per delivery
For the prepared meals, you choose the number of meals you want to receive per delivery:
- You have a choice of 6, 8 or 10 meals per delivery
At Purple Carrot, all orders ship for free. The meals have a flat price:
- The 2 serving plan meal kits cost $11.99 per serving
- The 4 serving plan meal kits cost $9.99 per serving
- The prepared meals cost $12.99 per serving
Purple Carrot is strictly plant-based (no animal products are ever used) meaning you can order any meal you want without having to scan the list of ingredients. It also offers a variety of options for dietary restrictions: gluten-free, low-carb, high-protein, soy-free and nut-free. While it doesn’t offer an oil-free option, if you choose the meal kits you can always omit the oil from the recipe, if that is important to you.
When we tried out Purple Carrot, we chose the 2 serving meal kit plan with 3 meals. Our 3 selected meals were:
- Black Bean Falafel
- Almond Butter Tofu
- Spicy Thai Coconut Corn Chowder
We picked these because we wanted to experience a variety of offerings (the falafels came with a raw salad, the tofu came with rice, and the chowder was a hearty soup).
While we really enjoyed all three, our favorite was the Almond Butter Tofu, and we have in fact replicated it since using our own ingredients. We liked that we were able to control the seasoning and spice levels in all three dishes because we had full control over how much we added.
We found the meal kits do require some work as the ingredients do not come peeled or pre-cut, but every recipe comes with clear step by step instructions, along with illustrations. The recipes were easy to follow and every ingredient was provided except for oil or salt, which you can leave out if that’s your preference.
One pleasant surprise was we found that we typically got 3 full servings out of the 2 serving meals, which actually made the meals more affordable than at first glance.
Who it’s good for/not good for
Purple Carrot is perfect for those looking for 100% plant-based meals. It also offers lots of menu choices, catering to those who prefer shorter prep times, have dietary restrictions, or are looking for international cuisines.
Meal kits are good for those who enjoy cooking, but don’t want the hassle of menu planning or grocery shopping. Prepared meals are ideal if you are short on time or don’t like to cook. Being able to order both meal kits and prepared meals from the same service is good for those looking for that type of flexibility.
However, Purple Carrot may not be your best option if you are on a tight budget.
Green Chef
Save $135 on Green Chef
Tuscan White Bean and Chard Soup
Green Chef offers meal kits that are delivered weekly. Weeks can be skipped, and the plan can be cancelled at any time. You choose the number of meals and the number of servings per delivery:
- The 2 serving plan has a choice of 3 or 4 meals per delivery
- The 4 serving plan has a choice of 2, 3 or 4 meals per delivery
Each delivery has a flat shipping fee of $8.99 regardless of how many meals you order.
The cost per meal is also a flat fee of $10.99 per serving (however the keto/paleo plan, which is not plant-based, is $11.99 per serving).
Green Chef is not strictly plant-based. It offers the option of a keto/paleo plan, a flexitarian plan, and a vegetarian plan (which includes several vegan choices). The most unique feature of Green Chef is that every ingredient is organic, setting it apart from the other services.
When we tried out Green Chef, we selected the 2 serving plan with 3 meals. The 3 meals we chose were:
- Quinoa “Tabbouleh” with Tahini Sauce
- Mushroom & Pepper Banh Mi Bowls
- Mushroom & Tomato Linguine
We picked these three to get a broad idea of what they offer. It was nice to have a rice dish, a quinoa salad and a pasta to sample. All three were very tasty and the one we definitely would order again was the Banh Mi Bowls.
Every meal comes with a step by step recipe that includes illustrations and is simple to follow. Some of the ingredients in the kits come pre-cut making the meals easier to prep. Every necessary ingredient is included, except for salt and oil, which you can omit if that’s important to you.
Who it’s good for/not good for
Green Chef is great for those who want a completely organic meal. It is also perfect if you enjoy cooking, but don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen because some ingredients come pre-chopped and everything is pre-measured. And the sauces are already made for you.
Green Chef may not be ideal for those who are strictly plant-based because some of their vegetarian meals include dairy (although you always have the option of omitting the ingredient when you prepare the dish). However, all the vegan meals are clearly labeled as such making them very easy to find.
Hello Fresh
Get Free Shipping and $80 Off Hello Fresh
Sesame Peanut Noodles
Hello Fresh offers weekly delivery of meal kits, where you choose the number of meals and number of servings in each delivery:
- The 2 serving plan has a choice of 3, 4 or 5 meals per delivery
- The 4 serving plan has a choice of 2, 3 or 4 meals per delivery
Deliveries can always be skipped and the service can be cancelled any time.
At Hello Fresh every order ships for a flat fee of $8.99. The meal costs are:
- $8.99 per serving for the 2 serving plan
- Between $7.49 and $8.99 for the 4 serving plan, depending on the number of meals ordered
The service is not strictly plant-based. The meal plans are: meat and veggies, veggie, calorie smart, and pescatarian. The veggie plan includes several vegan options.
When we tried Hello Fresh, we chose the 2 serving plan with 3 meals. Our 3 selected meals were:
- Italian Garden Veggie Soup
- Curry Spiced Chickpea Bowls
- Roasted Veggie Farro Bowls
As we had done with other services, we tried to get variety in our selections. This time we went with a variety in cuisines: Italian, Indian, and Mediterranean fusion. We loved the combination of the cranberries and Salsa Verde Sunflower Pepitas in the farro bowls.
We found the recipes to be easy to follow, with step by step instructions and plenty of illustrations. Preparing the meal did require some upfront work because the ingredients do not come peeled or pre-cut. Like the other meal kit services, everything you need is included except for oil and salt (which can be omitted if you like).
Who it’s good for/not good for
Hello Fresh is good for those who enjoy cooking, but don’t want to have to plan menus or go grocery shopping. It is also perfect for those on a tighter budget with meals starting at $7.49 per serving. And their vegan meals are typically low in fat.
Hello Fresh may not be ideal for those who are strictly plant-based because some of their vegetarian meals include dairy (although you always have the option of omitting the dairy ingredient when you cook the dish). However, all the vegan meals are clearly marked as such so they are very easy to select.
Veestro
Get 10% Off Veestro, Use Code: HAPPY
Enchilada Casserole
Veestro provides weekly delivery of fully cooked, ready to eat, frozen meals. You choose the number of meals you would like to receive with each delivery. You can also choose to not go on a plan (meaning there is no delivery schedule) and instead just place a one time only order.
If you choose the a la carte plan:
- You have an option of 10, 20 or 30 meals per delivery
If you are on the weight loss plan, you can choose between two options:
- The 5 day (15 meal) plan
- The 7 day (21 meal) plan
You can skip deliveries whenever you would like, as well as cancel the plan altogether.
Shipping is always free if you are on a delivery plan. One time orders have a shipping charge that varies with the size of the order.
The meal costs are as follows:
- Meals in the a la carte plan cost between $9.90 and $11.70 each, depending on the number of meals per delivery
- Meals in the weight loss plan cost either $10.80 or $11.70, again depending on the number of meals you select
Veestro is 100% plant-based (no animal products are ever used) so that you can choose any meal from their list without having to worry about reading through the ingredients. They offer a variety of choices for different dietary restrictions and requirements, such as high-protein, gluten-free, low-calorie, nut-free, soy-free and kosher. It is the only service we have tried that offers a kosher option.
When we tried Veestro, we placed a one time order rather than enroll in a meal plan. We selected the Trial Pack which consists of some of their most popular items (we didn’t get to pick):
- Pasta Bolognese
- Country Fried Chick’n
- Tuscan Calzone
- Red Curry
- Breakfast Burrito
- Enchilada Casserole
It was a great sampling of what they offer. We normally don’t eat vegan meats and cheese and were very pleasantly surprised by the quality of those used by Veestro. The Chick’n in particular was really unexpected. We imagine it would be great for those who are transitioning to plant-based.
Because the meals are fully cooked, they are very easy to prepare. They just need to be heated from frozen. Simple instructions for microwave, stovetop and/or oven are provided right on the packaging. They just take minutes from the freezer to the table.
Who it’s good for/not good for
Veestro is perfect for those who are looking for convenience because all the meals are premade and just require heating. Also, since everything they make is strictly plant-based, it is very quick and easy to select meals, whether you are on a plan or doing a one time purchase.
Veestro is also great for singles because each premade meal is one serving. And they have some very low calorie options, making their meals suitable for weight management or loss.
On the other hand, it may not be the best meal service if you are looking for a strictly whole food diet because they do have quite a few options that include processed items (such as vegan meats and vegan cheese). And because the meals are premade, you have no control over if oil is used.

Your order always ships for free.
The cost of each meal ranges from:
- $9.00 to $13.00, depending on how many you get in each delivery
Splendid Spoon is strictly plant-based, so you can order any of their items without having to look out for animal products. All their meals are gluten and soy-free. Some are nut-free.
When we tried Splendid Spoon, we chose the Breakfast + Lunch plan. For breakfast we chose:
- Mango Guava Smoothie
- Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
- Blackberry Basil Smoothie
- Carrot Ginger Chia Smoothie
- Raspberry Cacao Smoothie
Our favorite was the Carrot Ginger Chia Smoothie. It tasted bright and fresh, and not too sweet. The Chocolate Cherry and Raspberry Cacao Smoothies were a little too sweet for breakfast for our taste. They would have made great treats or desserts, though.
For lunch we selected:
- Aloo Gobi Quinoa
- Green Split Pea
- Beans & Greens
- Roasted Cauliflower
- Coconut Curry Rice
We loved the Green Split Pea Soup and the Beans & Greens. They tasted very healthy, but still delicious. Plus it was our experience that the soups reheated a little better than the rice bowls.
The meals arrive frozen. Because everything is premade, it’s very easy and fast to prep. The soups, grain bowls and noodles reheat in a matter of minutes, and the smoothies just need to be thawed before drinking.
Who it’s good for/not good for
Splendid Spoon is for those who really want convenience. You can have every meal delivered for your entire week, from breakfast to dinner, and everything is ready to eat.
Their meals are very low calorie making them well suited for those looking to manage or lose weight. And all items are strictly plant-based, with no processed ingredients, making it very easy to make menu selections. They are also perfect for singles because each item is packaged as one meal.
However, it may not be the best option if you are on a tight budget.
Sakara
Get Sakara
Burrito Bowl with Turmeric Corn Salsa
Sakara offers ready made meals delivered to your door as well as supplements, protein powders, snacks, teas and more. It’s more of a lifestyle service than just a meal service. If you do sign up for a weekly meal program, deliveries can be skipped whenever you like, and you can also cancel at any time.
The meal program consists of:
- Breakfast, lunch and/or dinner (you must choose at least two out of the three)
- For either 2, 3 or 5 days
You can choose to sign up for a weekly delivery schedule, which saves you 15% on your order as well as gives you free delivery, or you can choose a one time order. The shipping cost on a one time order varies with the size of the order.
Since you can cancel whenever you want, the weekly schedule makes the most sense cost-wise. Along with your meals, you will also receive a one week supply of one of Sakara’s wellness supplements (Complete Probiotics, Beauty Chocolates or Water Drops).
The cost of the program varies with the number of meals you receive in your delivery. For example:
- Breakfast and lunch for 2 days costs $109
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner for 2 days costs $169
- Lunch and dinner for 3 days costs $179
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner for 3 days costs $239
- Breakfast and dinner for 5 days costs $279
- Breakfast, lunch and dinner for 5 days costs $420
Sakara is strictly plant-based and entirely organic. Their meals are crafted to provide maximum nutrition and their ingredients are sourced to provide peak freshness. With Sakara you don’t get to choose your meals; instead you receive what has been created for that week’s menu.
When we tried Sakara, we chose the lunch and dinner weekly program for 2 days. We received the following meals in our order:
- Spiced Sunset Stew with Coconut Lime Chickpeas
- Brasserie Roasted Vegetables with Seed Toasts and Maitake Tapenade
- Sichuan Noodles with Rainbow Carrots
- Equinox Salad with Stone Fruit Tahini
We also received:
- 2 Detox Tea bags
- 10 capsules of Complete Probiotic dietary supplement
Sakara’s meals are definitely in a different class from those in the other services, and that is reflected in the price. Each meal was creatively composed, with high quality and unusual ingredients, and really did feel very nutritionally balanced. They left us feeling satisfied and nourished, not just full. They were also delicious.
The premade meals arrived refrigerated and labeled by date, letting you know which meal you are supposed to eat when, in order to ensure maximum freshness. The Brasserie Roasted Vegetables and Equinox Salad were meant to be eaten cold, and for the Sichuan Noodles and the Spiced Sunset Stew heating was optional. Either way, the meals were very easy and fast to prepare.
Who it’s good for/not good for
Sakara is the perfect service for those who are seriously looking for a specific lifestyle, not just the convenience of a meal program. If you value nutritious, fresh, high quality ingredients and novel, healthy dishes that you won’t find anywhere else then this is the service for you. The program is designed for singles, because each meal provides one serving.
If you are on a budget or looking to feed a family, Sakara may be cost prohibitive. It also may not be a good option for those who are less adventurous eaters or want to be able to choose their meals, since you can’t pick and choose dishes from their weekly menu.
Nutrition for Longevity
$15 Off Your First 4 Orders At Nutrition For Longevity, Use Code: READY60
Chipotle Winter Squash and Black Bean Salad
At Nutrition for Longevity, their meals are created along the guidelines of the Longevity Diet, the diet formulated on the eating habits of the Blue Zones. Their weekly programs ensure that you get at least 10 servings of fruits and vegetables, 25 grams of fiber, and less than 30% of your calories from fat daily.
You are able to skip weekly deliveries as needed, and you have the option of cancelling the service at any time.
The vegan meal plan options are the following:
- Vegan 3 Day Plan
- Vegan 5 Day Plan
- Vegan 3 Day Trial Box
Each of the three options offers a choice of either lunch and dinner, or breakfast, lunch and dinner. You are also able to further customize your plan by choosing either a total number of calories per meal, or a total number of calories per day. Nutrition for Longevity also offers pescatarian plans. All their meals are gluten and peanut free.
The meal cost varies depending on how many meals you get in each delivery with your plan. Meal plans ship for free.
The prices per meal are:
- Vegan 3 Day Plan, from $12 to $13
- Vegan 5 Day Plan, from $11 to $12
- Vegan 3 Day Trial Box, from $13 to $17
When we tried Nutrition for Longevity, we ordered the Vegan 5 Day Plan with lunch and dinner each day. You do not have the option of choosing your meals with their service; you automatically get what is on the menu for the week.
Our order also included a free bottle of the Organic Polyphenol Rich Olive Oil, which was a nice bonus. The lunches we received were:
- Sardinian Beet Panzanella
- The Casado (a salad of black beans, corn and bell peppers)
- Loma Linda Butternut Mac & Vegan Cheese
- Ikarian Fresh Herbs and Lentil Salad
- Ikarian Harissa Buddha Bowl
The dinners were:
- Okinawan Teriyaki Noodle Stir Fry
- Nicoyan Black Eyed Peas and Grits
- Sardinian Pesto Potato Stew
- Calabrian Mushroom Sugo
- Nicoyan Black Bean Chili
With so many meals, it would be hard to choose a favorite, but the Teriyaki Noodle Stir Fry and the Black Bean Chili were definitely at the top of the list. All the meals were very satisfying, and more filling than they appeared to be at first glance, probably because of the emphasis on fiber.
While we found that the meals needed some salt to suit our palates, the fact that they are low in salt is great for those who are concerned about their sodium intake.
The meals came pre-cooked and refrigerated. All the lunches were ready to eat out of the fridge, except for the Butternut Mac & Cheese, which needed to be heated. All the dinners came with heating instructions, either stovetop or microwave, and were ready to be eaten in 10 minutes or less, making it very convenient.
The meals were labeled by what day they were supposed to be eaten, so that you know which meal to eat first to ensure that everything remains at its freshest.
Who it’s good for/not good for
Nutrition for Longevity is a great service if you are looking for a combination of convenience and nutrition, particularly if you are interested in high fiber, low fat meals. It is also good if you are watching calories as they offer several low calorie plans. If you choose one of the vegan plans, then you know you will never have to worry about searching for meals that are strictly plant-based.
However, Nutrition for Longevity is not a good option if you want to be able to pick and choose your meals since you will automatically receive what is on the menu for the week.
